Diary
By clock (Wed Jul 02, 2008 at 08:56:01 AM EST) (all tags)
and my general attitude problem(s).

let me start by saying that my wife and son are amazing.  every single day i come home from work exhausted and pissed off but the very second that i see the two of them, all of that washes away and i feel calm again.  relaxed.  smiling people (and puppies) who are happy to see you at the end of a long day are the best medicine.

and have i mentioned that the dude and his crawling all over the place has brought out my only known superpower?

ahem

that was it.  up there.  in bold.  i clear my throat and no matter where he is, i suddenly have his attention.  he stops what he's doing and usually smiles at me to defuse the "situation."  the "situation" usually being his playing with an electrical cord or somehow trying to bring about his or the dog's early demise.  i fully anticipate the certain decline in effectiveness of my newly discovered gift, but when i think about it i still look up when my mom does that.  hrm.  perhaps this is, after all, a parent-specific skill.  whatever...i'm drunk with power!  i will clear my throat with reckless abandon!

in other dude news:  the tooth count is up to 2.5-ish.  and he's not really happy about it.  nor is my index finger.

i was told that it was a nice day yesterday since it wasn't in the upper 90s.  what. the. fuck. ever.  it is hot, humid and miserable here.  please note that it is july and i am in the middle of my "may through september bitch about the heat in texas" free zone.  yes, it is more miserable than the cornfield where i used to live.  yes, it is hotter than that place you once were.  no, you do not understand my misery.  i sweat more than you do.  i am more put out by the heat.  and i hate it infinitely more than you ever could.  thanks for playing.

additionally, ew.

my more creative projects are moving along nicely.  i'm re-recording a bunch of stuff and that's far more tedious than writing it.  more polish, more focus, more time.  and as i may have mentioned, by 8 pm, i'm usually pretty tired.  whatever.  as long as i'm doing something, i'm happy.

my beloved is off to pick up our quarter cow today.  i'm pretty stoked.  what we got last time tasted sooooo goooood.  it was worth every penny.  more on that as the consuming of tasty meat products begins!

also, i finished david sedaris's latest book and it was pretty good.  i did plenty of laughing aloud, but it wasn't like "me talk pretty one day" where i couldn't read it in public.  worth the read, as all of his work is.

that's all i've got.  boring ain't always bad.

Heat is good. by toxicfur (4.00 / 1) #1 Wed Jul 02, 2008 at 09:46:11 AM EST
Humidity is good.

That said, it becomes pretty fucking oppressive when it's well above 90F for days on end. Still, though, I do miss the long spring/summer/fall of the southern states.

it's been "well above 90F" by StackyMcRacky (2.00 / 0) #8 Wed Jul 02, 2008 at 03:22:11 PM EST
since the beginning of May!  It will continue to be so until October.  This is why clock complains.

Well, the heat and the humidity.  It's easier to deal with heat when your sweat actually evaporates, instead of leaving you soaking wet all the time.

I get it. by toxicfur (2.00 / 0) #10 Wed Jul 02, 2008 at 03:33:46 PM EST
In eastern North Carolina, the temperatures aren't as high for as long, but we certainly got the humidity. Around the end of July, I'd start to wonder if I'd ever feel cool again.... I do like that we don't need AC here, but I kind of miss the long months of summer. :-)

i think we should move to a place like in the REI catalogs where people need light jackets in the summer.

i always laugh at those ads "perfect for summer evenings"!  HA!  "summer evenings" here you put your shirt back on, mostly so the mosquitos don't chew you up!

Heat.. by sasquatchan (4.00 / 1) #2 Wed Jul 02, 2008 at 09:47:48 AM EST
drink lots of water. Make sure you get enough salt.

Jog in the PM.

Turn the AC off in your car and ride with the winders open (assuming no traffix, so you get some air flow).

That's let me run in 95 degree, 100% humidity days with out dropping dead of a heart attack. Gets you acclimated real fast. Sitting in the AC all the time just makes the heat feel worse, so embrace the heat, sweat it up, etc.

Technology has not advanced in 22 years?

It depends on where you're driving and what kind of car you have.

at highway speeds, for slick sedans, the AC is the more efficient choice.

For SUVs that already have shitty drag coefficients, it's a wash.

For lower speeds, windows are probably more efficient.

It all varies depending on the speed, drag coefficient, outside temperature and humidity and AC efficiency.
